Meet our Model: Alex Mack
Alex Mack has not only been our model extraordinaire but a fitness and fashion inspiration. She's also really, really great to work with. Get to know a little more about Alex, her career, how she stays fit, and what she does for fun below.
Q: How did you get into modeling?
Alex: That's actually a great question. I was working sales for a medical device company and ended up losing my job. At the time, I thought it was the end of the world but it was actually the best thing that's ever happened to me. I had a two-week pity party, then picked myself up by the bootstraps and walked into the modeling agency, Maggie Inc, in Boston and the rest is history!
Q: What's the best part of your job?
Alex: That's a tie between all of the fun travel you get to do and the amazing people you meet. I've had the chance to explore some awesome cities and see some amazing things, and am usually surrounded by an incredibly creative team of people. It's pretty awesome.
Q: Describe a typical day for you.
Alex: Well if I don't have a shoot, my days tend to be pretty light. I'm usually scooting all around the city to castings and go-sees, and meetings with my agents. I live right on the river in New York, so I usually do my daily river run, followed by some yoga or circuit training in the gym.
Q: Outside of work, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Alex: I like to be pretty active, so I like to exercise. NYC is a great place to be active and get out and explore, so I find myself learning new things about the city just by getting out and walking around. I love to cook, so my roommate and I get pretty creative in the kitchen. I also love a good book!
Q: You have a very busy schedule. How do you keep fitness and eating well a priority?
Alex: Trying to eat healthy and exercise on the road is one of the hardest parts of this job. There was one week where I was in a different city every 3 days for 3 weeks. I try to pack as many snacks as possible, nuts and granola bars, and drink a ton of water. I also make it a priority to exercise pretty immediately upon getting to my destination. Running outside is a fun way to explore a a new city!
Q: What's your favorite way to stay fit?
Alex: I've always loved running, it's a form of therapy for me. But I also think that it's important to have variety in your fitness routine, so I try to switch it up as much as possible. Yoga is incredible for the body and spirit. I also love kickboxing, great stress reliever!
Q: What's your typical fitness routine on any given week?
Alex: I usually run 4-5 days a week with yoga, weights, circuit training and group classes sprinkled in there, whatever I feel like doing that day. I don't have any real typical routine, just as long as I get a sweat in!
Q: How do you keep up with your wellness routine while traveling for work?
Alex: Making good choices while traveling is huge. Opting for a salad or fruit instead of a sandwich, that type of thing. Packing snacks makes that easier as well.
Q: How would you describe your style?
Alex: I'm a big fan of being comfortable in what I wear. I've always been pretty sporty, so my look has sort of revolved around that. A classic "jeans and a T" look is always good. I'm also a big sneaker fan. My closet is full of so many different types of sneakers, its crazy.
Q: What is your favorite article of clothing?
Alex: That's a really tough question. My classic black Crane and Lion pants are a pretty significant staple in my day to day. Not only are they super comfortable, but they look great and you can dress them up a little with a cute top and some killer sneaker wedges. I also have this amazing sweater from Zara that, in the fall/winter, is my savior on cold days.
Q: What are some fun, random facts about you?
Alex: I am one of 7 kids in my family, 5 of which are under the age of 7. I can throw a pretty tight spiral (watch out Tom!). I put Sriracha on quite literally everything (including salads). I ran D1 track at UConn.
